Hormone Therapy
Given the amount of information in the media and online about hormone therapy, it’s not surprising that women wonder whether hormone therapy (HT) is right for them when they are beginning to experience uncomfortable menopause symptoms. As women age, the levels of hormones that the body naturally produces start to go down, setting off a chain reaction of physical and emotional changes. HT has been prescribed by doctors to provide relief to women who have been negatively affected by the most common menopause symptoms, such as hot flashes and mood swings. By boosting hormone levels using HT, many women gain relief from the most troubling of these things that are part of menopause. The Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada (SOGC) came out with a detailed report on menopause in 2006. The Menopause Consensus Report, recommends that HT be prescribed in the dose and for the duration necessary to treat disruptive menopause symptoms.
